Whistler Housing Authority (WHA) is excited to share that another new WHA affordable rental apartment building is now under construction at 1450 Mount Fee Road in Cheakamus Crossing!
The $20 million employee housing project will provide 48 rental homes for Whistler’s workforce. The new homes will be ready for occupancy in the second half of 2024. Households on the WHA Rental Waitlist will be given priority access to these new affordable rental units. Rents at the building will be consistent with the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s (RMOW) Policy K-01, which sets rents at 30% of tenants’ incomes (RGI) to meet housing affordability standards, with minimum and maximum rental rates. Minimum rents will start at $1,450 (studios), $1,850 (1 bedroom units), and $2,425 (2 bedroom units).
The new WHA rental building at 1450 Mount Fee Road will be a 4-storey apartment building with secure underground parking for vehicles and bikes. Just over 10% of the units will be accessible, as well as all common areas in the project according to the BC Building Code. With the use of a variety of high-performance building strategies, the new WHA building is expected to operate with 30% energy savings and 22% GHG emissions savings compared to a typical apartment building. This will improve comfort for the occupants and reduce utility costs, further enhancing housing affordability.

Partnerships & Support
WHA is grateful for the support from the RMOW for their contribution of $1.5 million equity contribution to the project from the Cheakamus Crossing Affordable Employee Housing Reserve Fund. The municipal government's investment enabled WHA to access low interest lending rates from the Government of Canada, improving the viability and affordability of this new $20 million employee housing project for the community.
