125 new rental homes will be available in 2027

We are excited to announce that BC Housing, as part of their BC Builds program, has approved funding for another below-market rental housing project in Whistler. This project is under construction at 1600 Mount Fee Road in Cheakamus Crossing. BC housing will provide $6.3m in grant funding, as well as $48.2 million in low interest financing. WHA and RMOW will also contribute a total of $8.9m in equity towards the project.
The $63 million employee housing project will provide 125 new rental homes for Whistler's workforce. The project features a five-storey wood frame 105-unit apartment building (a mix of studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom units), and 20 three-bedroom townhomes. All homes have access to secure underground parking for vehicles and bikes, including electric charging. The project will be constructed to Step Code 4, the highest level of environmental performance for new construction in BC.
1600 Mount Fee Road, due for completion in late 2027 will be the seventh and largest rental housing project that the WHA has brought to the community since 2017 and marks the second BC Builds-funded non-market housing project under construction in Whistler. 1475 Mount Fee Road, directly across the street, was also funded thanks to BC Builds and is scheduled for completion in August 2026. Once completed, these two projects will bring WHA's available non-market rental housing inventory to 604 homes.
Individuals and households on WHA's Rental Waitlist will be given priority access to these new non-market rental homes, many of which are well-suited for families. Eligible community members, not yet on our waitlist are invited to apply to the WHA Rental Waitlist for these new housing opportunities.
The WHA is also calling for help in naming 1475 Mount Fee Road. You are invited to help name this rental project. The naming competition closes on November 28th.
