Introducing Sitka & Cedar: The New Names for 1475 Mount Fee Road

Thank you to everyone who participated in helping name this new WHA Rental Housing Project.

We’re pleased to share the new names for the project formerly known as 1475 Mount Fee Road. Following review of the 156 submissions, the selected names for the two buildings that make up this 104-home development will be Sitka & Cedar. These names were selected from the many thoughtful and creative submissions provided by the community, and we thank everyone for their submissions.

The most common theme in the submissions included references to Cedar. This, along with the stand of mature trees that have been retained in the front of the site, provided the inspiration for the name.

The project will be named ‘Sitka and Cedar’ with each of the two buildings assigned its own tree species to assist with wayfinding for tenants and visitors. The South building, on the left-hand side when viewed from the road, will be referred to as ‘Sitka’, and the North Building will be referred to as ‘Cedar’.

The contributors whose names were selected will be contacted separately. Due to the high number of similar submissions, there will be a prize draw to select the winners of the gift cards.

Scheduled for completion in Summer 2026, the Sitka and Cedar buildings will together provide 104 new rental homes, marking the largest number of WHA rental units to come available at one time. Homes will range from studios to three-bedroom apartments, creating a diverse mix of options to support individuals, couples, families, and shared households.

Importantly, this project includes a significant number of larger, family-sized homes. Of the 104 units, 40 will be two- and three-bedroom apartments, designed to better meet the needs of families with dependents or groups of qualified roommates. These larger units are expected to help reduce wait times for households seeking more space and stability.

WHA is accepting applications for the Rental Waitlist, for this and other units in WHA’s Employee Rental Housing Inventory. We strongly encourage community members who are not yet registered to apply as soon as possible. Priority is given based on time spent on the waitlist, and not all applicants express interest in every housing opportunity, so early registration matters. Tenancy review for this project is expected to begin in Spring 2026, with opportunities to review floor plans in advance.

If you or someone you know could benefit from secure, long-term rental housing in Whistler, now is the time to take the next step. Learn more about eligibility and join the WHA Rental Waitlist today. Stay tuned for further updates as Sitka & Cedar continue to take shape.

We look forward to welcoming new residents to these homes in 2026.
